Massive Win For Yates

Manager Mark Yates has hailed the team following their three two victory over Northampton Town.

Speaking to the Official Site after a brace from Terry Gornell and a first Cheltenham league goal for on loan John Marquis left Yates a very happy man at full time and he explained.

‘It’s a massive three points for us and we needed players to show a bit of character and a bit of quality, I think we got that. They are a decent side and they’ll be up there no doubt about that at the end of the season and we’ve beaten them.’

Yates goes on to say that he thought it was a cagey first half but he knows we created a lot of good chances and he felt we deserved the lead at the break, but unfortunately we then switched off again in the second period and let them get back into it and he also admitted that we somewhat rode our luck when their lad hit the post but as we continued to create chances ourselves, he was delighted to see us grab a couple more goals.

‘I never felt under pressure, with seven or eight minutes left on the clock. When they started throwing the big men up top and pumping balls to them I didn’t have any qualms because we do that every week in training. The guys have got to take enormous credit.’

Yates says that hopefully with us creating so many chances and now taking some of them as well it’s a sign of things to come for us because with a busy fixture list again now he knows the games are coming up where we can get the points to lift us up that table.
