Cheltenham’s winless streak came to an end on Saturday afternoon when we got back to winning ways at Whaddon Road against Northampton Town.

The odd goal in five, in our favour of course, saw us run out 3-2 winners with a man with former Northampton connections ultimately proving the match winner as a transfer-listed striker put himself in the shop window.

Jason Taylor former Northampton ‘keeper Jordan Archer in a good save, with that the most threatening from either side really at that stage so a goalless first half looked on…. until the second-minute of first half injury-time when we broke through.

Matt Richards put a freekick into the box that was knocked down to the transfer-listed Terry Gornell (45) who scored at the second attempt to make a point.

Northampton were swiftly level after the restart though as Joel Byrom (48) fired home.

Had it not been for the post them former Cheltenham man Kaid Mohamed would have then put the visitors ahead with Gornell then denied a second with Archer swiftly pulling off another good save.

A late lead was restored when another Richards freekick was headed home by Gornell (78) with former Northampton loanee John Marquis (84) following this up, having come off the bench, to put the finishing touches to another Richards freekick to score his first league goal for us and extend our lead.

A tense finale was set-up when David Moyo (86) headed Northampton back into the game but we saw it out to claim the three points.
