Performances Must Bring Results – Yates

Manager Mark Yates has said that Cheltenham Town simply have to start turning our performances into positives results now following our ‘self destruction’ against Shrewsbury Town in our last match.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the game against Northampton Town this weekend Yates wants us to end our seven match winless run and get the goals that he believes our performances deserve so we start getting the wins we all want.

However again, he’s not panicking, he’s not displeased because he knows it’s only a matter of time before our performance levels will result in wins but he knows we are quickly getting to the stage where that needs to happen sooner rather later.

‘Concern is the wrong word because I have belief in the group and what we are trying to do. It’s just a case of turning our current form around because last Saturday was disappointing. The players need to perform this weekend and we need to start picking up results, but I have been relatively happy with performances but we have not been getting the result and it’s now time to do something about it.’

With defensive errors still irking the manager from the last game, Yates admits that this season we haven’t made many mistakes in games really but we made plenty in that last match and he’s obviously hoping that given how harshly the cost us, the players will prove and show that it was a one off and just one of those days in football rather than a pattern of things to come.

‘We have to tighten up and you can’t really legislate for individual mistakes, but we didn’t do enough as a team to get three points. This season we haven’t made too many errors, but we did and it cost us. We took the lead and just gave it away so we have to respond now.’

Yates admits that he was pleased with the players reaction in training because they looked bright and sharp after looking ‘jaded’ in the second half of the last match and he was also adamant that he felt we were a better side compared to last year, and of course we’re only three points off the play off places and he knows there is a belief amongst the camp, but again he knows we need to show that on the pitch with results.
