Northampton missed the chance to consolidate their third place position in the League Two table when they slipped to defeat at promotion rivals Cheltenham.

Midway through the first half Adebayo Akinfenwa will feel he could have done better with a header, and maybe given Northampton the lead? It was Cheltenham that did break the deadlock through Steve Elliott (44) on the stroke of half time when he followed up his initial saved effort.

The Cobblers could have levelled in the second half, and went close a couple of times, but couldn’t manage this losing 1-0.

Cheltenham’s latest win moved them up to fourth, just behind Northampton, and extended their unbeaten home record that has stood since September!
