Allen looking to build on promising display

Martin Allen was full of praise for his battling team as they were edged out by Leeds on Saturday. ‘I’m very proud and very pleased’ he told the Gloucestershire Echo.
‘It was always going to be a tough game and although I’m disappointed to lose you could see how happy our supporters were at the end of the game’.

Allen went on to single out the midfield duo of Josh Payne and Lewis Montrose for particular praise: ‘Our young boys in midfield, who are 17 and 19, were up against experienced players and aquitted themselves very well.’

The introduction of Damian Spencer, as a second half substitute, was another plus for Allen, as he explained ‘I told Damian on Friday that was a sub and it’s a definite boost to have him back.’

Allen concluded that ‘Perhaps we could have had a little bit better quality in the final third, but in terms of commitment, energy and passion I thought the players were absolutely terrific.’
