Manager Mark Yates has focused on the praise he can give the team following their battle against Southend.

Southend went ahead in the game and it took until the final minute of normal time before Cheltenham secured a leveller, and speaking to the Official Site he explained that it was certainly no more than we deserved given the effort and the way we approached and played the game over 90 minutes.

‘We showed a bit of spirit and I thought we could have had four or five in the first half because the game plan worked but we conceded a jammy goal.’

Yates qualifies it as being jammy because it went through Troy’s legs and Scott got the first save to push it away, but it was literally the only thing he had to do in the game.

The stats show that they only had three efforts on target in the whole game, whereas we had double that number of chances on and off target over the course of 90 minutes, so Yates can feel a touch aggrieved that we didn’t take the win, but again the work rate was far improved and that was what pleased him most.

Whilst it wasn’t the win we wanted, Cheltenham are now unbeaten in seven games and Yates is still mindful that we are drawing way too many games and we need to pick up more wins, but if you can’t win, the least you do is don’t lose and we are achieving that now.
