Manager Mark Yates is looking for us to extend our unbeaten run to five matches later today when we face Oxford United.

With kick off at 7.45pm tonight, Yates has plenty of time left to prep the team and speaking to the Official Site he explained that tonight against Oxford would be another tough test for the players, but having come through the game against Portsmouth he knows we can deal with it.

‘Portsmouth and Oxford are two big clubs but you are where you are and you must deal with it. Oxford are in a good position and it’ll be a tough game. It’s a really tight league and we have to go there and worry about ourselves. If we put in the same performance we did against Portsmouth and if we can finish some of the chances we are creating then even better.’

With Oxford recently parting company with Chris Wilder, Yates goes on to say that the speculation in the press linking him with the job was just speculation and there wasn’t anything in it but it led from him having watched them a few times recently, but that’s just par for the course of his job as he learns about future opponents.

The gaffer is still hoping to target an eighth place finish this campaign and this game will be another step towards that, but even with games coming thick and fast at the moment he says there won’t be major changes this evening, but there might be a bit of tinkering to freshen things up, but he was pleased with our effort and commitment levels so he wants to see the squad build on that.

‘There were some good signs on Saturday and ones that we can build upon.’

The gaffer goes on to finish by saying that one thing we won’t allow is for the season to peter out, the players all have something to prove and as a club we have plenty to play for over the coming games and with how tight the league is we do need to keep looking forward so we don’t end up slipping back.
