Manager Mark Yates has said that the 90 minute performance against Dagenham and Redbridge in the final game of the season yesterday typified our entire season so far.

Speaking to the Official Site following the 3-2 loss, the gaffer said.

‘This game just sums us up, I’m not going to make any excuses. I thought some of our stuff in the first half looked really good, but we looked a bit leggy second half. We didn’t do enough, we had a few chances and a good penalty shout before they scored their third. The lads were convinced it was a penalty. We gave a few of the young boys a go and I thought that first half they did exactly what we asked of them.’

Unfortunately though Yates was left to call the first goal they scored a ‘ridiculous’ one to concede from his point of view, and the second goal was ‘poor’ as well. The third gives rise to the ‘sums us up’ comment again.

‘When we give away goals like the goals we give, it’s mind boggling. The goals we’ve conceded this season has been the main problem.’

Yates adds that when we did get the ball down and play he thought we did it well, and we getting our fullbacks forward for some width quite effectively, but we just didn’t do it often enough, but he was quick to point out that although there is always things we can do better, there are some things we absolutely must do better, but that’s not something he’s going to lay at the feet of the youngsters who came in because he was pleased with their efforts and he really wanted to see the seniors lead more.

Another season over, disappointing by our standards, but it looks like plenty will change over the summer.
