Manager Mark Yates has said that when we face Newport County this weekend he wants us to build on the current unbeaten run we have in the league.

Cheltenham are now unbeaten in four games in the league, although the Tamworth upset stands out as a hiccup in that period, but he’s told the Official Site that he’s expecting a very good atmosphere for the match and he wants to see Cheltenham give their all again to keep that unbeaten run going and hopefully even better, make it back to back wins following the victory over Wycombe.

‘Without a doubt we need more than one or two good results and we now need to go on a run and win games. The challenge is to win back to back games because we haven’t done that this season. We’ve got two home games where we want to pick up maximum points but the only one that counts at the moment is Newport.’

Yates knows that Newport are a very good side enjoying their season following promotion to the Football League and they have a system which suits them down to the ground, so they won’t come as a surprise really because we’ve more than done our work on them, but that doesn’t mean we can take them lightly or underestimate how tough they will make the game.

In terms of our fitness ahead of the game, Yates revealed that Jermaine McGlashan has trained all week so he’s expecting him to play a part this weekend, even if it’s from the bench and that Jason Taylor has been nursing a knock from last weekend, but there’s no real problem and he’ll be back in training from today.

As for Russ Penn, the gaffer admits his rest isn’t through choice, but he has been nowhere near the form he should be showing, so hopefully the rest will have done him good and hopefully he’ll return in better form.
