Manager Mark Yates has looked back on our recent uplift in league form, the loss to Tamworth in the first round of the FA Cup and talked about his hopes that we get back to winning ways against Wycombe in our next match.

Speaking to the Official Site Yates said it’s never nice not to win a game, and especially when it’s a Cup encounter that you are the favourite in, to lose is even more gutting and it always means players have to take a long hard look at themselves because whilst upsets notoriously happen in cup competitions, the favoured sides really only have themselves to blame when that happens, and then you have to dust yourselves off and get back to work because you can’t let a game or a run of games dictate your entire season.

‘We are three unbeaten in the league so what we’ve got to do now is forget about the FA Cup. We have been fortunate enough, as a club and group to have played Tottenham and Everton and West Ham this season. We have reached the third round and benefitted financially so we know how important it is. Unfortunately we have denied the club that chance this year but over the last two seasons it has been a bonus because we don’t budget for it. We’ve got to get on with it and we have 31 games to concentrate on with our league form.’

Yates goes on to say that the players have been working extremely hard in training this week and there attitude has been good and he knows it’s not lack of effort that has led to our season so far, but now we are doing the basics well again, it’s time to add quality to our performances and step up even further as well as maintain our consistency levels and keep cutting out the mistakes.

The positive again for Yates is that he doesn’t believe we are playing that badly so things have to go our way eventually, but our recent run in the league has done a lot for belief and confidence and that’s what we need to build on.
