The Dubious Goals panel have come to a determination following our winner against Wycombe Wanderers.

Our second goal on November 16th has now officially been ruled as an own goal following an investigation.

The club had submitted video evidence of the goal and the panel have decreed that Sam Deering’s initial shot would not have gone in had it not have received a deflection. Usually these things are based on whether the initial shot was going on target at the point it received a deflection and as they ruled that Deering’s was going off target, they have come to the conclusion that an own goal is more fitting.

The confusion came as although the referee noted that Deering was the goal scorer, the Opta Sport reporter listed it as an own goal, so the clarification was sought.

Obviously this will be disappointing for Deering who would’ve liked to have opened his account, but hopefully it won’t be too long coming.
