Cheltenham Town manager Gary Johnson has brought in young striker Billy Waters from Crewe Alexandra today.

The 20 year old has signed a 12 month deal at Whaddon Road, and come to us having made 15 starts with 15 further appearances from the bench during his time at Gresty Road.

He has scored three times for them, and he is now our seventh new signing of the summer.

He joins up with the lads for the first time when they return for pre season training on Wednesday.

He follows on from the arrivals of Aaron Downes, Kyle Storer, Jack Munns, Amari Morgan-Smith, Harry Pell, and Jack Barthram.

‘I have watched Billy play quite a few times, he had a really good start at Crewe and I was surprised that he didn’t maintain his first team status there. He’s been at Crewe a long time and people who have been under Dario Gradi and the staff there have a really good football upbringing. He has some real quality and is a playmaker. He can play behind the forward, as a forward or a wide player. He will give us options, he’s a small, stocky player to go alongside a few of the big lads that we’ve got, but more than anything he will be a real team player.’

Johnson also said he’s hoping to take his summer recruits up to the ten mark to complete his planned rebuild of our playing squad.
