Mark Yates has described our performance in the two all draw with Oxford as being a ‘proper’ performance that now kick starts our season.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, Yates said that there was absolutely no doubt in his mind that we should’ve come away from that match with all three points but the important thing for him is he now feels we are finally ‘up and running’ and that after seven games, we have now actually started the season.

‘We looked better in every department, last Saturday we thought Terry’s goal could have been a winner and would have papered over the cracks. Today, that was a proper performance. If we play like that for the rest of the season we’ll be in and around the top, no problem.’

Yates focused on the fact that he feels earlier in the season we’d been a bit airy fairy, but against Oxford we stood up to them, we showed our aggression and determination and we put the right amount of effort in.

Talking again about how he felt we should’ve won the game, he added that Terry and Byron both scored good goals but he feels both of them could’ve added at least another each and given us a really comprehensive scoreline and he feels we were owed a few penalties in the game as well, most certainly the foul on Jermaine in the first half.

New loan signing James Wilson also made his debut and Yates picked him out for special praise for how well he slotted into the team and grew into the match despite not being at the club for very long at all.
