Cheltenham Town’s six-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt as they slumped to a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Oxford United.

After falling behind to an early Steve Basham strike, the Robins fought back instantly with Steve Guinan restoring parity for the home side.

But Eric Sabin netted his second goal against Cheltenham in three days to seal the win for the visitors.

And Town boss John Ward was not totally unhappy with his side’s showing.

‘We tried to move the ball and shift it, but didn’t have any of those little breaks that you need,’ said Ward.

‘I think the effort, work rate and football from our team was good though.’
