Manager Mark Yates has warned that Cheltenham’s attitude in the game against Tamworth must be right, otherwise we risk an upset.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the game at The Lamb, the gaffer said that he didn’t believe there was an awful lot between the quality of the two divisions and Tamworth have some good ex pros on their books who will be looking to cause an upset and will get everyone else in their camp up for this match, so if we don’t approach it right, it could go wrong.

‘We know a lot about them because we’ve done our homework. It’s going to be tough, but we’re used to games like that so our attitude must be spot on. they’ll be doing everything they can to cause a little upset and knock a league team out, so our attitude must be spot on, we need to cut out any mistakes and keep playing as we currently are.’

The worry for Yates is whilst we have some consistency about us in terms of performance levels, we also have a fair bit of consistency in not taking our chances, or fouling up in defence.

Worryingly as well, Yates points to the fact that they have some big physical players so set pieces will be a threat from them.

Bottom line is, it’s going to be a typical Cup battle, it’s unlikely to be very pretty so we need to be professional and stick to the plan and not simply think we are better quality than they are, actually go out and prove it and let that quality show by matching them in desire.

One thing that Yates thinks will help us is a number of players have already played at the ground so will better know what to expect, and will be able to back up what the scouting staff have already told them.
