Manager Russell Milton has said he felt sick to his stomach seeing Cheltenham go down three nil against Plymouth Argyle at the weekend.

The defeat pushed Cheltenham to the bottom of the League Two pile for the first time this season and York City is now the proverbial six pointer with games quickly running out.

Speaking to the Gloucestershire Echo following the defeat the gaffer explained that what nobody would be doing was giving up though.

‘We can’t get any lower than where we are and we have to go to York and give a performance. We have to start producing now, that’s what we spoke about in the dressing room after the game. As a staff we have to get amongst it and get people going again. We need to get the players doing what they enjoy doing again, as Plymouth ground us down. I still believe that we have got enough to get out of it. We have had the performances, even if we haven’t quite got the results we deserved. We have to attack the next seven games and see where that takes us.’

Milton says that heads dropping in this situation is obviously a worry because they players do care, and they don’t like where they are in the table, having had the season we’ve had, but you can only react one way to it if you want to change it.

‘The players care and so do we as staff. I am sick to the pit of my stomach about where we are at the minute. We just have to pick ourselves up and look towards the York game and go again.’

As for the game itself and his thoughts there, he felt the opening goal and the errors we made for that had been ‘indicative’ of the season we’ve had all year long – allowing their defender to run straight through for 50 yards before setting up their top scorer to put it away.

And it was a bitter pill to swallow as he felt we’d been performing well until everybody just switched off again.

‘It was okay for half-an-hour then they scored a goal right through the middle of us. That has been indicative of the season. We’ve been good for patches and then been punished. We looked okay for most of the first half, but that is how games change. We had a couple of opportunities that didn’t go for us, and they have taken theirs. It’s in both boxes that count. That is where they were better and then it didn’t quite click for us in the second half. The second took a deflection and that gives us a mountain to climb and we weren’t able to do that.’
