Manager Mark Yates was left disappointed following the loss to Mansfield, because he believes they formulated a game plan which worked perfectly on the day.

Speaking to the Official Site following the two one defeat, the gaffer explained that he was disappointed mainly because he believes it’s the first time in a few months where we just haven’t been good enough on the day, and he doesn’t think it’s a stretch when saying.

‘I’m not going over the top but we have been able to look each other in the eyes every week at 5pm since Tamworth and I don’t think enough were good today. They came and did a job on us and stopped us playing but we didn’t help ourselves.’

Yates knows we had the chances to at least get a point from the game, especially in the first half but we gifted them the second goal and it was always then going to be an uphill battle.

Another disappointment for Yates was that the plan was to come out in the second half and give it a real gutsy go to get back into the game in the second half, but it never really happened and we sort of limped along for another 45 minutes achieving little of note.

‘We had a late goal and a few half chances but we probably got what we deserved.’

Ultimately Yates knows we have to give credit to Mansfield for the job they did on us, and they were better in every area of the pitch but we just didn’t work hard enough to get a pattern, or a tempo to the game that would’ve helped us, we were simply outfought and we didn’t have it in us to battle as much as was needed to keep our unbeaten run going.

We have been on a good run though and losses will happen, so hopefully there will be a reaction in the next game and we can get ourselves on another run, from his ending comments in the interview Yates is also pretty clear that they’ll be no over reaction to this based on that, because we have been in good form and on a good run and one result doesn’t change that, we just have to go again.
