Goals from midfielder Harry Williams and Matt Richards gave Cheltenham victory in our most recent pre season friendly on Friday evening.

It was an experienced selection from manager Mark Yates and Craig Braham-Barrett returned to the right back spot for the first time following the bad day out at Tamworth in the FA cup last season.

Trialists Joe Curtis (formerly of Southampton) was also given a run out in midfield, whilst Rakish Bingham (formerly of Wigan) was up front.

The first chance of the game fell to our hosts, but we had a good chance to go ahead when Steve Elliott put the ball onto the roof of the net when he connected with a corner taken by Joe Hanks.

Omari Sterling-James (Redditch United) made his second starting appearance for us since joining us as a trialist also, and he had a good chance to have given us the lead.

With how brightly Leamington started the game though, Yates would’ve had thanks to fellow trialist goalkeeper Ben McNamara who was composed in goal, especially on the half hour mark when one on one with, I believe, former Aston Villa striker Stefan Moore.

Eight minutes later Cheltenham took the lead through Williams, and we should’ve doubled it moments later when Kotwica’s shot glanced the top of the bar.

The second half started slowly, but Cheltenham did have a goal ruled out as the referee adjudged that Kotwica had gone too early in the build up before he put the ball in the back of the net.

Seconds later on the 61 minute, Leamington made us pay for that and levelled the score.

The manager then made a number of changes on 66, although both trialists remained on, with Curtis moving to left midfield and Bingham was now partnered by Bobby Dale.

On 70 Leamington almost took the advantage as they struck the post and Moore was quickest to the rebound, but McNamara grasped his mis hit.

Two minutes later we scored the second through Richards as he connected with a Braham-Barrett delivery.
