John Ward Challenges Team

John Ward gave his players a challenge during the half time team talk at the weekend. The talk must have worked because they managed to over turn a 2-1 deficit to win the match against Notts County 3-2.

Ward said: ‘I challenged the players at half time because we should have had two or three goals but we weren’t clinical enough in the last part of the pitch. When we got it right once, we scored. We have got to have a bit more determination in the last third of the pitch to make sure that we make the most of our good approach play.’

An 84th minute goal by Grant McCann gave Cheltenham the 3 points in a thrilling encounter. The Western Daily Press newspaper said ‘Overall the Cheltenham team performance was impressive, as the side came back to win the game 3-2. Most who were there would agree that the team played some slick football to dominate and stifle the opposition.’
