19 year old Joe Hanks has today put pen to paper on a new deal at Cheltenham Town.

The midfielder has signed a one year extension at Whaddon Road having impressed in his development last season, and having been offered the new deal by manager Mark Yates a short time ago, it has now all been signed.

Following on from a good loan spell with Gloucester City and then two good showings at the end of the campaign in the games against Rochdale and Dagenham and Redbridge, Hanks has now appeared three times for us, and Yates clearly expects him to kick on further next season and that’s exactly what the player expects to do.

Speaking to the Official Site after penning the deal, he explained.

‘I just continued playing my football and I was lucky enough to be given an opportunity at the end of the season. I’ll work hard over pre season, hopefully impress and then you never know I may get a start out there.’

Hanks said that after signing his deal, his pre season had really already begun because he was kitted up to train with Ian Hutton and that was why he was in.

‘Ian has always been good with me so I’ll keep working with him and see what happens.’

Having signed his first professional deal last season having graduated through our Academy and impressing in youth and reserve football, he had a good first ‘proper’ season really, building on his loan displays and hopefully they’ll be more chances for him next campaign.
