Former Shrewsbury Town skipper Matt Richards has joined Cheltenham ahead of the coming campaign.

The 28 year old was released in the summer after spending two years with them, and he’s now signed a two year contract with us and will wear the number 14 shirt.

He can play both at left back, left and centre midfield and he told the Official Site after signing his deal.

‘This is really good news for myself, I’ve heard great things about the club so I’m pleased to be here. It’s a lovely part of the world for my family too and that’s important to me.’

Richards says he had discussions with a few clubs but having played against us and knowing the ethic of the team and the fact we want to play football, it became a bit of a no brainer for him once he heard of our interest.
