Former Tottenham Hotspur and Swindon Town youngster Jack Barthram has now agreed a deal with Cheltenham Town for the coming season.

The 21 year old becomes Johnson’s sixth signing of the summer following on from Jack Munns, Aaron Downes, Kyle Storer, Harry Pell and Amari Morgan-Smith.

Having come through Spurs’ ranks, he played alongside Munns and having joined Swindon in the summer of 2013, he made 16 League One appearances for them, scoring in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy against Plymouth Argyle.

Comfortable at either wing back or full back, Gary Johnson said of the signing to the Official Site.

‘This signing is a real coup for the club because there is no doubt in my mind that Jack is potentially a Championship standard player. He is quick, with great energy and also end product. The grounding he has had at Tottenham and Swindon is only going to benefit us and I’ve managed to convince him he’s coming to a Football League club, even though we are in the National League this season.’

Johnson confirmed that he did have other offers in the pipeline given his League One experience and quality, so he was delighted to have convinced him to move here and he feels he’s somebody that will excite the fans.

‘I also got Munnsy to have a word with him because they know each other from Spurs and I am very happy to be able to bring him here.’

In his own interview Barthram said the aim for 2015-16 was easy, win promotion back to the Football League at the first time of asking.

He comes in with a total of 23 appearances so far – all for Swindon.

‘I had a call from Gary Johnson saying he wanted me to join and I already knew a bit about Cheltenham, but he really sold the club to me. One of the main things that interested me was that he is clearly not intending to be in the National League for more than one year and he wants to get straight back up into League Two. I know what he did at Yeovil, taking them into the Championship and I think he can do something similar at Cheltenham, or I wouldn’t be here. We are going to give it a right good go.’
